The NRLA (National Residential Landlords Association) is the accrediting body for professional landlords. To join them, theres an admin fee of £75 per annum for cover of up to two landlords, or £155 for a business. However, to be clear, an accreditation cannot be bought. Once your annual subscription is paid, the process of becoming accredited is not an easy one - heres what an professional accredited landlord has completed if they have chosen to do their accreditation on the NRLA Website:
- 7 sections of online courses which cover Starting up, Estate & Lettings Agents, Safety, Tenancy, Financial, Property and Regulatory Regime
- Each section has a number of categories; 90 in total
- Each category has a multitude of sub-catergories; a staggering 817!
- Circa 70-75% of these categories require an online test which must be passed with 100% to allow acceditation
- A number of these categories also have videos to watch to help embed the learning
- Some local councils will additionally have their own schemes which require face to face seminars on specific requirements for that area
- Once successfully accredited, landlords must undertake 10 hours of continuous development each year to maintain the accreditation. This could be in the form of attending property courses/ webinars/ reading material etc, which must be logged on the NRLA website as proof
